THE ORDINARY – SKINCARE REVIEW

IMG_0358

By now, you would have definitely heard of The Ordinary. It’s an evolving skincare brand under DECIEM who are an umbrella of multiple, affordable skincare brands like NIOD, Hylamide, Chemistry Brand, Stemm, Fountain and many more. The brand was created to introduce consumers to affordable yet “clinical formulations with integrity.” They have very quickly become a popular brand in the beauty community and everybody is talking about them because not only do they give truly amazing results but they have won many beauty awards by Grazia, The Pool, Reveal, Tatler, CEW and The Sunday Times…

So if you didn’t before, now you know what The Ordinary is all about, but what do they have to offer!? The brand currently has 9 different vitamin and retinoid products, 7 different direct acid products, 8 different hydrating serums and oils, a few other skincare products as well as a makeup range that is good for your skin – with many more products to come!

In recent months I have seen lots of hype around The Ordinary products and I didn’t feel the need to invest as I was already happy with my current skincare products but then the famous 3 day Priceline 40% sale happened and I couldn’t resist, especially at such incredible sale prices. I got my hands on the Hyaluromic acid 2% + B5, Advanced Retinoid 2%100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil and the Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA. Each product was under $10 with the sale prices… So I’m not going to lie, I purchased a few of each! I’ve also looked into their extensive range, done some reading and have found some other products that I’m definitely going to look into trying out in the future but for now I’ll review the above for those who are interested!

Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5

I think serums are very important, especially if you are looking to get a little more hydration out of your skincare. A moisturiser will only ever hydrate the surface of your skin, so it’s good to incorporate extra hydration by adding a serum into your routine. In winter I find my skin has a hard time adapting from cold to warm temperatures so I try to choose serums higher in hyaluronic acid. This particular serum upon application is really wonderful as it glides on and spreads easily, then I find it gets a little bit tacky but then after a minute or two it finally absorbs and that tacky feeling is completely gone – especially once I apply moisturiser. It has no scent, it is super gentle and I personally find it quite hydrating. It truly works as effectively as my Eve Lom Intense Hydration Serum and it’s less than a third of the price!!!!

Advanced Retinoid 2%

Retinoids are chemical compounds that are related to Vitamin A. During the natural aging process, our skin loses its elasticity resulting in the development of wrinkles, fine lines and changes in texture of the skin. Using skincare products that have Retinoid or Retinol in them can help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, increase blood flow in skin and increase cellular turnover, boost collagen production, even out skin tone and even fight acne/scars. In the past I have tried to introduce my skin to products with retinol/retinoid and unfortunately I either broke out or had some issues with my skins texture changing too repaidly. I even tried to only use them once a week but I stopped completely because I found them too much for my skin at the time. I have been using the advanced retinoid emulsion every two/three days and I have noticed such visible results already. My skin is looking super clear, the texture of my skin has also really smoothed over since winter and my old acne scars around my cheeks/chin have completely faded! The scars were probably a year old and had gone a bit dark due to sun damage but after using a combination of this emulsion and my other skincare products they have seriously made a difference! Please note that if you want to try this product, ease into it 1-2 times a week at first after your serum and don’t use any other retinoid products while using it!

100% Organic Cold Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil

Oils are essential if you want to lock in moisture and help balance your skin, best used lightly pressed over the top of moisturiser as the last step in your skincare routine. I have been using oils for over 2 years now and I find that on the nights I forget to or simply can’t be bothered (we all have those nights!), I can really feel a difference, especially in the morning. Oils truly work wonders on your skin if you are consistent and not to mention they are super versatile. Made for daily use, AM and/or PM and depending on the type of oil, you can wear them alone or mix them into your foundation for a more radiant and dewy look. I have tried and loved many argan and marula oils, so when I saw that The Ordinary had a Rose Hip Seed oil in their range as well as the argan and marula, I wanted to give this one a go. I must admit that for my normal-combination skin type I found that all three types of oils worked well on my skin but most importantly, this Rose Hip Seed oil absored the quickest. I love that I’m not left with a greasy or slippery feeling on the skin!

Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA

If there is one thing I have really collected over the years, it’s definitely moisturisers… I have an entire bathroom cabinet full of them as well as my staples that I go to every day in one of my vanity drawers. I must admit, this moisturiser feels so soft and fresh on the skin. It glides onto the skin really nicely and gives you a burst of hydration straight away. It also spreads really well, so you don’t need to use much of it at all. It’s perfect for day time as it’s super hydrating but absorbs nice and quickly. I have been using it as a day time moisturiser every other day and I have found it sits really beautifully under makeup too so that’s a bonus! This moisturiser can definitely be used at night time too, however, I do prefer to apply a richer cream. While we are asleep, our skin cells are rebuilding and repairing so it’s vital to get a good nights rest but we can always help our skin out by applying topical treatments especially if they contain hyaluronic acid or shea butter. At only $9.80* full price at Priceline, why not give it a try!!

I hopethis review post helps you with any questions you had about those products! I must say that I really believe in what DECIEM is doing as a company and The Ordinary range that they have produced have such outstanding products that come with such an affordable price tag… Perfect for everybody’s budget. I know that there are people all around the world who are sick of being taken advantage of when it comes the prices they have to pay for products that sometimes don’t do what they say they’ll do. The Ordinary products are perfect for anybody just starting out with skincare or for the ultimate skincare junkie and won’t cost you a fortune! If you haven’t already tried their range, do yourself a favour and try them!
